Fantasy Football Week 5 Wide Receiver Projections: Johnson, Welker A Cut Above
Week 5 is the first week when teams are on a bye. See how that shakes up the projections for fantasy football.
Are some of your wide receivers on a bye this week? Are there backups worthy of starting? We check into the Week 5 projections from our partner, numberFire.com. Their super-computer has all the facts and figures that it crunches up with mathematical algorithms, then projects a player’s worth for the weekend.
Megatron, Calvin Johnson, rules the roost. Every week, you get a couple of touchdowns from the stud Lions receiver. Behind him is the other end of the size scale, the diminutive Wes Welker continues to menace defenses with the aid of Tom Brady. But over in the land of the Eagles, Jeremy Maclin has supplanted DeSean Jackson as the go-to passing option in Philadelphia's offense.
The computer still likes Marion Manningham as the second option for the Giants behind Hakeem Nicks. But with the way Victor Cruz has been coming on, there could be a reversal of fortune in New York. In Indy, Pierre Garcon has edged his way above Reggie Wayne in the rankings, although any Colts offensive players is a dicey play at this point.
* Fantasy Points Projections are based on the Yahoo! and ESPN default scoring settings. Quarterbacks are scored with 1 point for every 25 passing yards, and 4 points for every touchdown. For running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends, they are scored with 1 point for every 10 total yards, and 6 points for every touchdown. This is a non-PPR projection.
Injured players appear on the list, this is their projection IF they play.
