After missing last Sunday's win over the Minnesota Vikings with a high ankle sprain, Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith was eased back into practice this week and is on target to start against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.
Kevin Smith Expected To Start Vs Raiders
Smith is officially listed as “Questionable”.
A 2008 third-round pick out of Central Florida, the Lions opted to not even extend a qualifying offer to the oft-injured restricted free agent last offseason. With the club losing 2011 second-round pick Mikel Leshoure to an Achilles injury in the preseason, Jerome Harrison to a brain tumor and Jahvid Best to another concussion, the Lions re-signed Smith in mid-November. Smith earned NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors after rushing for 140 yards and two touchdowns and catching four passes for 61 yards and another touchdown in a win over the Carolina Panthers in his second game back.
Smith injured his ankle in a Thanksgiving Day loss to the Green Bay Packers and has just 13 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown with six receptions for 46 yards in two games since.
