Ben Roethlisberger Injury Update: Steelers QB Sustains High Ankle Sprain

The Pittsburgh Steelers held on Thursday night to defeat the Cleveland Browns 14-3, but they may have suffered a tough loss in the process. Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger went down with an ankle injury in the first half but managed to come back in the third quarter and finish out the game. Roethlisberger was limping the entire time and could barely get back to his running backs to hand off the ball.

After the game, head coach Mike Tomlin described the injury as a high ankle sprain. Recovery from a high ankle sprain can take anywhere from two to six weeks, which makes Big Ben’s return to the field for the second half all the more impressive. Peter King was in the Steelers locker room after the game and he said Roethlisberger could only put about 20 ounces of weight on his left foot. I’m not really sure how exactly he knew it was 20 ounces, but that is a question for another day.

The Steelers travel to face the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football in week 15, which gives Roethlisberger eleven days to get his ankle healed up if he wants to play. If he is unable to go, Charlie Batch would get the start in his place.
