Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith wants the offense to do a better job of keeping the team's defense off the field. Smith said on Wednesday (via The Charlotte Observer) that the offense hasn't done anything anything consistently that would help the defense, calling his unit's play at times "lethargic."
Steve Smith says Carolina’s offense needs to help Panthers defense: Fantasy Implications
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith says the team’s offense needs to a better job of helping the defense stay on the sidelines. We break down the fantasy implications.

The Panthers are 1-4 heading into Sunday's game with the Dallas and the Panthers have not looked like the same team that scored points in bunches in 2011. Cam Newton has thrown four touchdown passes and five interceptions, while Smith hasn't caught a touchdown pass this season. Making matters worse for Carolina is the recent season-ending foot injury to Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil.
Fantasy Impact: Smith is correct that the Panthers haven’t done enough on offense but that shouldn’t stop fantasy owners from using players like Newton and his top wide receiver. Newton remains a threat to score running or throwing, while Smith is always capable of making a big play.
Newton remains a No. 1 fantasy option at quarterback this week against Dallas, while Smith is a high-end No. 2 fantasy wide receiver.
