Hitting the Bullseye
Vincent Jackson, TB
Vincent Jackson had a monster day on Sunday, as he was targeted 14 times by quarterback Josh Freeman, catching seven of his passes for 216 yards and a touchdown. He was one yard shy of a 96 yard touchdown, but was caught from behind on the one yard line. Jackson now has caught 27 of his 60 targets this season, good for 586 yards and five touchdowns.
Marques Colston, NO
Colston continues to provide owners with double digit scoring in Week 7, as he caught seven of his ten targets for 73 yards and a 17 yard .score. Colston has now caught 35 of his 60 targets for 516 yards and five touchdowns. He has scored in three straight games now and should continue to be targeted by quarterback Drew Brees with tight end Jimmy Graham nursing an ankle injury.
Andre Johnson, HOU
Johnson received double digit targets for the second week in a row, catching nine of his ten targets for 86 yards and no touchdowns. Johnson has been a disappointment this season, as he has caught 34 of his 53 targets for 446 yards and just one touchdown. Houston is on a bye in Week 8, but the Texans face the porous Buffalo pass defense in Week 9.
Torrey Smith, BAL
Smith was targeted a season high 13 times on Sunday, but caught just four of Joe Flacco's passes for 41 yards and no scores. Thus far in 2012, Smith has caught 25 of his 49 targets for 435 yards and three touchdowns. With the Ravens defense one of the worst in the NFL over the last few weeks, Baltimore will probably be throwing the ball quite a bit going forward, so Smith should continue to receive plenty of targets.
Mike Wallace, PIT
60 Minutes was targeted 15 times by quarterback Ben Roethisberger on Sunday night, but he caught just 8 balls for 52 yards and did not reach the endzone. What he did do is drop about four to five balls, one of them would have been a touchdown, and another was a crossing route that if he caught, he would have been off to the races. He’s been targeted 27 times over the last three games, but has just 12 receptions to show for it.
Missing the Target
Larry Fitzgerald, ARI
Fitzgerald disappointed owners in Week 7, as he caught just four of his seven targets for 29 yards and no touchdowns. He came into the game as the sixth most targeted wide receiver, and ranked seventh in receptions, so he will fall in the rankings after this week. He has caught 40 of his 71 targets for 459 yards and three touchdowns. After double digit targets the last three weeks coming into Week 7, Fitzgerald received less than ten targets for just the third time this season. Things don’t get better for him in Week 8 as he gets to face the tough San Francisco defense.
Dez Bryant, DAL
Bryant was targeted just three times in Week 7, catching two balls for 14 yards and no scores. He left the game after a helmet to helmet collision. Bryant has caught 36 of his 51 targets this season for just 378 yards and two touchdowns, and has been a major disappointment thus far. He gets the Giants at home next week.
