Fantasy Football PPR Target Report, Week 7: Tight Ends

Who were the tight ends with the most targets on Sunday? We provide a summary.

Jared Wickerham

Owen Daniels is establishing himself as Matt Schaub’s go to receiver in the red zone this season, as he scored yet another touchdown on Sunday, giving him four on the season. He now ranks third among all tight ends in receptions and receiving yards.

If you are in need of a tight end due to bye weeks or injuries, keep your eye on new Redskins tight end Chris Cooley, as the team signed him on Monday to replace Fred Davis who is out for the season with a torn achilles.

Let’s take a look at the Week 7 leaders in targets:

Hitting the Bullseye

Owen Daniels, HOU

Daniels was targeted ten times by quarterback Matt Schaub, catching seven balls for 59 yards and another score. Daniels has now caught 33 of his 48 targets for 416 yards and four touchdowns. He has established himself as one of Schaub's top targets in the red zone. The Texans are on their bye week in Week 8, but face the Bills in Week 9. Daniels is a must start in standard leagues where you must start a tight end every week.

Rob Gronkowski, NE

Gronkowski was targeted nine times by quarterback Tom Brady, catching six passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns. Thus far in 2012, Gronk now has caught 27 of his 49 targets for 407 yards and five touchdowns. He has scored double digits points in four of his seven games this season. He is well off his 17 touchdown season in 2011, but is on pace to score double digit touchdowns and should be starting even in three receiver leagues going forward.

Brandon Myers, OAK

Myers is owned in less than 30% of CBS fantasy football leagues, but he is one you should keep your eye on going forward, as he is becoming a favorite of quarterback Carson Palmer. He was targets ten times on Sunday, catching seven balls for 44 yards and no scores. With the Raiders offense struggling to get into the end zone, it is just a matter of time before Palmer starts targeting Myers in the red zone.

Missing the Target

Vernon Davis, SF

Davis was held without a target on Thursday night vs the Seahawks and was not happy about it after the game. Since scoring four touchdowns in the first three weeks of the season, Davis has been targeted just 14 times in the last four weeks, catching 10 of those targets for 171 yards and no scores. It seems that every time a star player complains about their use in their team's offense, that player becomes a main focus of the offense the very next week, so I would start Davis in Week 8 if you don't have better options.

Kyle Rudolph, MIN

After scoring a touchdown in four of his last five games, Rudolph was held out of the endzone in Week 7. He was also held without a catch as he was targeted just four times by quarterback Christian Ponder. Through seven games, Rudolph has 25 receptions, on 45 targets, for 225 yards and five touchdowns. Coming into Week 7, the Arizona Cardinals had held opposing tight ends to just 31 fantasy points, good for fifth in the NFL, so it is no surprise that Rudolph struggled this week.
