Greg Jennings injury: Packers receiver out ‘six weeks’, fantasy owners should move on

The Green Bay wide receiver will lose most of the 2012 season with a sports hernia. We break down the fantasy implications.

Jim Prisching

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings will indeed have surgery on his groin that should keep him out at least an additional six weeks. Jennings has played in just three games this season and admitted that he may have tried to come back too soon from the injury. The Packers leading receiver from 2008 to 2010 hopes to be back before the end of the regular season.

Fantasy Take: This should continue to make Randall Cobb a WR1 as he is implemented even more into the Packers plan and in Aaron Rodgers favor. Cobb has 37 catches for 435 yards in the midst of his breakout season and the Green Bay offense is on a roll with 72 points in their last two games.

Jennings owners however should move on. Unless you feel better stashing him on your bench in hopes of a very late playoff run, it’s likely that he’d be ineffective even if he did play in the latter three games of the year. There’s not much sign to support Greg Jennings being viable at all in fantasy football this year.
