Seahawks vs. Lions: Fantasy football projections featuring Marshawn Lynch, Mikel LeShoure, Matthew Stafford

The 4-3 Seattle Seahawks travel to face the 2-4 Detroit Lions in Week 8. The Seahawks sit a game out of first in the NFC West behind a strong defense, while the Lions are scuffling along in last place in the NFC North. In order to prepare you for fantasy football each week, we are adding game-by-game projections courtesy of numberFire.

The Seahawks are built around their defense and a strong rushing attack, which explains why Marshawn Lynch is the name that pays among Seahawks fantasy performers. Lynch is having a solid season and is projected at 82 yards, with a 50-50 chance of hitting paydirt. Detroit actually has a solid run defense this season, but is struggling through the air. Even still, Lynch is a must-start every week.

The Seahawks passing attack on the other hand is just about a must-sit in all but the biggest of leagues and worst of bye situations. Russell Wilson and his receivers are facing a struggling Lions pass defense, but you are unlikely to get much of anything from them and should generally sit them. numberFire likes Wilson to put up some moderately decent numbers, setting up as a bye week option, although there are likely better ones out there.

The Lions remain an enigma, and nothing exemplifies that more than Matthew Stafford. The Lions QB has actually been a decent fantasy QB, but owners did not draft or keep him for decent numbers. He was considered one of the top four or five quarterbacks in most drafts and he has not played like that. He faces a tough Seattle secondary and if you have a better option, you might want to consider it. I wouldn't start anybody other than him, but there are some sleepers with upside to consider.

The Lions face a tough Seahawks rush defense, which likely means a tough day for Mikel LeShoure. Of course, the Bears seemed to sell out for the Lions passing attack, opening holes for LeShoure last week. He is not a strong start, but if the Seahawks attack the Lions offense in a similar way, he could be a decent sleeper.

Where it gets interesting is in the wide receiver corps behind Calvin Johnson. Megatron remains a must-start even with his probable listing on the injury report. After that, Titus Young and Ryan Broyles are the two options this week as the No. 2 receiver with Nate Burleson out. Young is the better talent, and picked up some solid numbers against the Bears last week, but he is also questionable. If he is active, he is likely the preferred start to Broyles.
