No position in fantasy football is more frustrating than wide receiver. Consider Titan wide receiver Nate Washington. He's been teasing you all year as he goes in and out of your lineup. Finally, you look to strike coming off of a big Week 9. So, you start him in Week 10 against a weak Miami secondary, and he gets you one catch on two targets for five yards. Who can you trust? Let's try to not "chase stats" and instead consider the match-up information, along with target data, below. Both are becoming more and more important as we evaluate which wide receivers are the favorites for their respective quarterbacks. And of course, a general notes section will highlight some important points for the week. Let's start right there:
Fantasy Football Rankings, Week 11: Wide receivers in standard and PPR leagues
As we enter the final week of byes, which wide-outs should be leading your team into the playoffs?? Find out, here!

NOTES:
- Calvin Johnson once again leads my rankings and my notes. He finally had a Calvin day in Week 10 with 12 grabs for 207 yards and his first (from Stafford) touchdown.
- Not sure about Cecil Shorts? Well you should get to know him. He has double-digit fantasy days in three of his last four starts and he's averaging ten targets per game over those four weeks. Get him on your team and in your lineup.
- Does Laurent Robinson think it's 2011? Back-to-back notes about Jags' wide receivers; something must be going on down there! Consider that Robinson has 24 targets in his last two (post-injury) weeks.
- This just in, Denarius Moore is elite. There, I said it. He has a touchdown in five of his last seven weeks and he has 8+ targets in EVERY game this year. He's a WR1.
- These guys had a disappointing Week 10 and we have to wonder what the future brings: Nate Washington (5 yards), Eric Decker (15 yards), Steve Smith (19 yards), Victor Cruz (26 yards), Emmanuel Sanders (30 yards), Miles Austin (32 yards) and Kenny Britt (36 yards)
- Keep an eye on these wide receivers that are battling through injury: Demaryius Thomas, Julio Jones, Jordy Nelson, Greg Jennings, Wes Welker, Jeremy Maclin, Brandon LaFell, Dwayne Bowe and Santana Moss.
- Besides those guys, be sure to bench the WR's on these four bye week teams: MIN Vikings, NY Giants, SEA Seahawks and the TEN Titans.
TARGETS:
Just as I mentioned, fantasy wide receiver scoring can be fluky. But, one thing that you can’t argue with is targets. See the chart below showing the Year-To-Date and Week 10 target leaders:
Year-To-Date | Week 10 |
Reggie Wayne (112) | Laurent Robinson (15) |
Victor Cruz (104) | Cecil Shorts (14) |

Wes Welker (94) | Calvin Johnson (13) |

Brian Hartline (80) | Wes Welker (11) |

FANTASY POINTS ALLOWED (FPA):
FPA is a great judge of the strength of a future match-up. The number next to the teams’ name represents how many fantasy points that team is giving up to the entire receiving corps on an average weekly basis. Obviously, you want your guy to play against a team that is allowing a LOT of points to wide receivers:
Best Defense Against Opposing WR's | Worst Defense Against Opposing WR's |
SEA Seahawks (17.14 pts allowed) | NO Saints (31.03 pts allowed) |
NY Jets (17.33 pts allowed) | TB Bucs (29.58 pts allowed) |
PIT Steelers (17.47 pts allowed) | WAS Redskins (29.39 pts allowed) |
SF 49ers (17.90 pts allowed) | NY Giants (27.51 pts allowed) |
DEN Broncos (18.08 pts allowed) | IND Colts (27.04 pts allowed) |
CHI Bears (18.93 pts allowed) | NE Patriots (26.70 pts allowed) |
CAR Panthers (18.96 pts allowed) | CLE Browns (26.14 pts allowed) |
HOU Texans (19.18 pts allowed) | MIA Dolphins (25.80 pts allowed) |
