The San Francisco 49ers didn't really have a QB controversy this season, but QB Colin Kaerpenick may have forced the issue on Monday night. Starting in place of Alex Smith against the Chicago Bears, Kaep put on a clinic, completing 16 of 23 passes for 243 yards and two TDs as the Niners throttled the Bears 32-7.

Colin Kaepernick had an impressive game against the Bears on Monday night, and the Niners suddenly have a QB controversy. We break down the fantasy implications.

After the game, coach Jim Harbaugh was noncommittal about his starting QB next week, saying only that he will “go with the hot hand”.
Fantasy Impact: Kaep has deserved more reps after clowning the Bears’ vaunted D. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Niners use Smith’s ongoing concussion issue as a convenient excuse to give Kaep another look next week.
This situation is still new and fluid, so fantasy owners shouldn’t make any rash decisions yet. Just know that Kaep is a big name to monitor on the waiver wires.
