Fantasy Football 2012, Week 12: Tight End Rankings
If you were an owner of Patriots star Rob Gronkowski, who went down with a significant injury, this week’s tight end rankings take on particular importance. It is easy to bemoan your bad luck, but it is a lot harder to scour the free agent wire to find a replacement. Others might not have the Gronkowski problem, but are deciding between 2 playable options in this crucial week 12 matchup. Tune in to my weekly TE rankings to make your decisions a no-brainer!

- Vernon Davis looked really impressive in his Monday night matchup against a really tough Chicago Bears defense. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick seemed to be looking for him early and often especially on the play action run fakes. This QB switch bodes really well for Davis's fantasy value. While I am not quite ready to push Vernon back up into top 3 territory, he is very quickly returning to elite-top 5 consideration.
- I have been writing about this for weeks, but your buy low opportunity on Aaron Hernandez is basically over. not to mention the trade deadline has passed in most standard leagues Hernandez is expected to play this week but in a very limited role due to just coming off injury. No matter how he performs this week, with the Gronkowski injury, I consider Hernandez a top 5 TE going forward. Down the stretch and in the fantasy playoffs, he is going to make some fantasy owners very happy
- I'm sorry, but I am just not buying Jermichael Finley at this point. He has been sooo bad for such a long stretch. We aren't talking a 3 or 4 game cold streak. He has been nonexistent for most of the season. He had a nice line this past week, but most of the points came on a 20+ yard TD catch. The scariest thing, is that this was Finley's "breakout week" and he received only 3 targets! While he does play in a high octane offense, I just dont see Jermichael as a reliable option in any fantasy format. Don't overreact to his week 11 performance, keep him on your bench.
- I have been really impressed with Dwayne Allen's recent role in the Colts offense. He has been highly targeted (11 targets) in an offense that is not shy about throwing the football. The only issue is how much of this upswing in production is due to the injury to Coby Fleener. However, until Fleener returns, Allen remains a really solid option. If you are desperate for a TE because of losing Gronkowski, Allen makes for a really good stopgap at least for the next week or 2 until Fleener returns.
- Keep your eye on Marcedes Lewis. Historically, he has just been a goal line threat in a woeful offense that frankly, doesnt get to the goal line very much. But, The Jags offense absolutely exploded this past week under the QB play of Chad Henne. This explosion also came against the Texans who are one of the top defensive units in the NFL. I am not ready to anoint Lewis a solid fantasy option quite yet, but if Henne can get this offense in gear Marcedes could give some very solid fantasy lines down the stretch.
