However, it was Colin Kaepernick who received first-team reps as the rumored new starter. SI.com's Jim Trotter reported as much on Thursday evening, and ever since, all signs have pointed toward the move to Kaepernick. On Sunday, we'll get a second look at Kaepernick versus the New Orleans Saints.
Fantasy Analysis: This was a major headline this week. It looks like Smith is out and Kaepernick is in. Smith never had much value but was a great flex option in leagues that permit a second QB. But this could potentially be it for Smith this season.
In the deeper leagues, fantasy owners have frantically taken to the waiver wire because of Kaepernick’s upside. If you can still get your hands on the second-year player out of Nevada-Reno, claim him.
