Update: Hunter’s is actually suffering from a torn Achilles’, not an ankle injury, according to reports. Regardless, Hunter’s loss is a big one for the 49ers and potentially for fantasy owners.
Kendall Hunter fantasy season likely over with ankle injury
Kendall Hunter’s season is likely over due to an ankle injury suffered during the 49ers’ win over the Saints on Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.

Kendall Hunter's 2012 season is likely over after reports on Tuesday revealed that the ankle injury he suffered during the San Francisco 49ers' win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday is more serious than initially believed. Hunter was carted off the field at the same time as Kyle Williams (torn ACL). Hunter's ankle appeared to be tweaked by Jonathan Vilma at the end of a run.
Hunter will likely finish the season with 371 yards rushing and two touchdowns off 72 carries playing behind Frank Gore. With Hunter out, Brandon Jacobs and rookie LaMichael James will likely see more touches to close out the regular season and into the playoffs.
Fantasy Impact: The 49ers will likely recall Jewel Hampton off the non-football injury list to take Hunter's roster spot. Nobody stands to benefit from Hunter's injury from a fantasy perspective as much as Gore, however. Hunter leeched touches and the occasional goal-line carry away from Gore throughout the year. Now Gore should be free to hog touches out of the backfield.
