Fantasy Football PPR Target Report, Week 9: Wide Receivers

Did your wide rec.eivers receive enough targets in Week9? Check out the Week 9 PPR Target Report and find out

Frank Victores-US PRESSWIRE

Heading into Week 9, reports indicated that Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson would possibly be limited to third downs vs the Jaguars due to a knee injury. There were even some fantasy owners on Twitter who were pondering sitting Johnson as a result. Then, later in the morning we learned that he would actually start the game and not be limited at all. Johnson did play the whole game, catching seven of his eight targets for 129 yards and yet again NO touchdowns. The Lions put up 31 points on the Jaguars and quarterback Matt Stafford did not throw one touchdown pass.

Hopefully, SB Nation fantasy owners did not sit Johnson on Sunday.

Let’s take a look at which wide receivers received the most targets in Week 9:

Hitting the Bullseye

Eric Decker, DEN

Coming into the season, many owners targeted Decker to be Peyton Manning's favorite target in the new Broncos offense. He is now paying dividends to those owners who held onto him after he failed to score in the Broncos first three games of the season. Decker caught 8 of his 11 targets for 99 yards and two scores on Sunday, and has now scored seven touchdowns in his last five games. He has now caught 46 of his 70 targets for 583 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

Randall Cobb, GB

With the injury to Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb has stepped up to become Aaron Rodgers favorite target. Well, at least he was on Sunday. Cobb caught just three of his nine targets for 37 yards, but made his receptions count, as two of them went for touchdowns. Cobb now has scored six touchdowns in his last five games, and has now caught 45 of his 59 targets for 500 yards and six touchdowns for the season.

Brandon Marshall, CHI

SB Nation’s Philip Beanblossom ranked Marshall as his number 1 wide receiver in his Week 9 Wide Receiver Rankings, and Marshall responded with a monster game vs the Jaguars. Marshall caught nine of his ten targets for 122 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday, and now has caught 59 of his 90 targets for 777 yards and seven touchdowns. Six of his seven touchdowns have come in the last five weeks. Marshall is a top 5 wide receiver going forward.

Larry Fitzgerald, ARI

Fitzgerald caught six of his 12 targets for 74 yards and a touchdown in Week 9, but has been a bit of a disappointment to fantasy owners who drafted him in the second round this season. Fitzgerald has caught 51 of his 97 targets for 585 yards and just four touchdowns thus far. He will need a strong final 7 games to earn his second round value this season.

Missing the Target

Percy Harvin, MIN

Harvin had a tough week going up against the excellent Seattle defense in Week 9, as he caught just two of his six targets for 10 yards. This was by far his worst game of the season, but he is still having a solid 2012 season. Thus far in 2012, he has caught 60 of his 79 for 667 yards and three touchdowns.

Hakeem Nicks, NYG

Nicks disappointed fantasy owners in Week 9, catching just one of his four targets for 10 yards and no scores. One has to question why he was targeted only four times by quarterback Eli Manning on Sunday. Manning struggled all day, completing just 10 of his 24 passes for 125 yards and no scores, so Nicks was not the only Giants wide receiver to struggle in Week 9.
