The play of New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is making Tom Brady forget that Rob Gronkowski is likely out for the rest of the regular season. They are using Hernandez as much as possible, lining him up at tight end, wide receiver and running back. He had a big game on Monday Night Football, catching two touchdown passes in the Patriots' rout of the Houston Texans.

Hitting the Bullseye
Aaron Hernandez, NE
Hernandez caught eight of his 11 targets for 58 yards and two scores on Monday Night Football. All this, after his 13-target game last week, which saw him catch eight passes for 97 yards. He has missed six games this season due to injury, but I have a feeling he will be highly sought after in 2013 fantasy drafts. Quarterback Tom Brady seems to like to throw to his tight ends more than any other QB in the league.
Jimmy Graham, NO
Graham also plays in an offense where the tight end is targeted quite a bit. We saw that was on display in Sunday's game against the New York Giants. Graham was targeted 10 times by quarterback Drew Brees, catching five of those passes for 56 yards and no scores. Graham hasn't scored in three straight weeks, but has caught 64 passes for 710 yards and 8 touchdowns on the season. While he hasn't lived up to his preseason draft hype, he has been a productive tight end for those of you in leagues where you are required to start a tight end.
Missing the Target
Antonio Gates, SD
Gates was targeted eight times on Sunday, catching just three of Philip Rivers' passes for 31 yards and no scores. Gates is certainly not the prolific tight end from several years ago, and injuries seem to have slowed him a bit. He has just 41 receptions for 448 yards and four touchdowns this season, as Rivers continues to target his wide receivers more and more this season. We may have already seen the best from Gates. I doubt he will return to his 2010 form.
