Fantasy Football PPR Target Report, Week 16: Tight Ends

Wide receiver play dominated Week 16 for fantasy owners, but a few tight ends did see double digit targets on Sunday.

Grant Halverson

Calvin Johnson and his fellow wide receivers dominated Week 16 action, so the performance of many tight ends was less than stellar on Sunday. In most weeks, fantasy owners could count on the likes of Jimmy Graham, Aaron Hernandez, Heath Miller and others for double digit targets and a score. But Week 16 gave us just two tight ends with 10 or more targets, Jimmy Graham and Ben Watson. That's right, THE Ben Watson!

Let’s take a look at the tight ends who saw the most targets in Week 16:

Hitting the Bullseye

Jimmy Graham, NO

Graham saw 11 targets from quarterback Drew Brees on Sunday, catcing seven passes for 88 yards and no touchdowns. Graham has now gone five weeks without a score and has just 100+ yard receiving game on the season. After a stellar 2011 season where he caught 11 touchdown passes and had over 1,300 yards receiving, his 76 receptions for 867 yards and 8 touchdowns looks ordinary.

Jermichael Finley, GB

Finley was targeted eight times by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, catching five balls for 70 yards and no touchdowns in the Packers trouncing of the Cardinals on Sunday. He has been a disappointment in 2012, as I ranked him in my top 5 tight ends coming into the season. Thus far in 2012, he has 53 receptions for 595 yards and just two touchdowns in the high-powered Packer passing game.

Missing the Target

Tony Gonzalez, ATL

Gonzalez was targeted just two times in the Falcons Saturday night win over the Lions, catching one ball for nine yards. After seeing double digit targets four times in the first nine games of the season, Gonzalez has gone six straight games without double digit targets from quarterback Matt Ryan. On the season, Tony G has caught 88 balls for 889 yards and 8 touchdowns. He needs 111 yards receiving in Week 17 to break 1,000 yards receiving for the fourth time in his career.
