Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart has suffered a setback in his attempt to return from an injured ankle according to head coach Ron Rivera and did not practice on Thursday. It appears likely that Stewart will miss his fifth straight game and therefore, the rest of the 2012 NFL season.

With another missed game potentially on the horizon for Stewart, Williams can end on a high note. We break down the fantasy implications.

Stewart won the primary role at running back over DeAngelo Williams midway through the season but then missed significant time, paving the way for Williams to return to the role as starter. Williams has had a minimum of 12 touches in each of the last four games, but still has not reached the same level of production that he had in the middle of his career.
Williams has 527 rushing yards in fifteen games, whereas Stewart had 336 rushing yards in nine games to go along with 157 receiving yards.
Fantasy Take: Stewart is most likely out and Williams is a solid RB2 play in Week 17 leagues.
