St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson told ESPN that he would "rather go out like Barry Sanders and leaving people to want more than to leave too late" on Thursday. Jackson has played in the NFL for nine seasons and he reached the 10,000-yard milestone this year. He currently ranks 26th all-time in that category.

Jackson, drafted out of Oregon State in 2004, is 10 yards shy of his eighth-straight season over 1,000 yards. If he does retire, he will have gone almost his entire career without making the playoffs. During his rookie season, which he spent most of behind Marshall Faulk, the Rams won a Wild Card spot and beat the Seattle Seahawks before losing 47-17 to the Falcons the following week. That was the last time the Rams had a playoff game.
The Rams take on the Seahawks this week, possibly Jackson’s final game in the NFL.
Fantasy Take: Jackson turns 30 next year, the usual “end of the line” for most running backs and productivity. Jackson is expected to not use his $7 million player option to test the open market, but he might just test “life after football” instead.
