Fantasy Football Rankings, Week 14: Wide Receivers in standard and PPR leagues
With most fantasy playoffs starting this week, finding the right starters is so important. Find out who, here!

No position in fantasy football is more frustrating than wide receiver. Consider Atlanta Falcon wide out Roddy White playing against a weak pass defense, New Orleans, and, he gives you one catch on only seven targets in Week 13. Ugh. Who can you trust? Let's try to not "chase stats" and instead consider the match-up information, along with target data, below. Both are becoming more and more important as we evaluate which wide receivers are the favorites for their respective quarterbacks. And of course, a general notes section will highlight some important points for the week. Let's start right there:
NOTES:
- As the Indy QB Andrew Luck makes his push for the Rookie of the Year, his wide receivers are benefitting. We all know Reggie Wayne is a target machine and is a must start. But, also check out T. Y. Hilton (6 catches on 13 targets for 100 yards in Week13) and Donnie Avery (5 catches on 14 targets for 91 yards and TWO touchdowns in Week 13).
- Wes Welker had ‘bum' written all over jersey Weeks 7 thru 11 as he didn't top 8 fantasy points. But, with Gronkowski injured and Julian Edelman on IR, Wes is returning his draft value. Consider these last two weeks, 28 targets, 174 yards and two touchdowns.
- Keep an eye on Chris Givens as he has 20 targets and 207 yards in his last two weeks
- Dez Bryant is a monster.
- These guys had a disappointing Week 13 and we have to wonder what the future brings: Brandon Lloyd (10 yards), Brandon LaFell (14 yards), Eric Decker (17 yards), Roddy White (20 yards), Larry Fitzgerald (23 yards) and Torrey Smith (33 yards).
- Keep an eye on these wide receivers that are battling through injury: Danny Amendola, Vincent Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Sidney Rice, Kenny Britt, Steve Johnson, Cecil Shorts, Antonio Brown, Mike Wallace, Alshon Jeffery, T J Graham and Jeremy Kerley.
- The bye weeks are over, so feel free to start everyone.
TARGETS:
Just as I mentioned, fantasy wide receiver scoring can be fluky. But, one thing that you can’t argue with is targets. See the chart below showing the Year-To-Date and Week 13 target leaders:
Year-To-Date | Week 13 |
Reggie Wayne (152) | Calvin Johnson (21) WOW! |
Calvin Johnson (144) | Wes Welker (18) |

FANTASY POINTS ALLOWED (FPA):
FPA is a great judge of the strength of a future match-up. The number next to the teams’ name represents how many fantasy points that team is giving up to the entire receiving corps on an average weekly basis. Obviously, you want your guy to play against a team that is allowing a LOT of points to WR’s:
Best Defense Against Opposing WR's | Worst Defense Against Opposing WR's |
PIT Steelers (16.10 pts allowed) | TB Bucs (28.51 pts allowed) |
SF 49ers (17.04 pts allowed) | WAS Redskins (27.63 pts allowed) |
SEA Seahawks (17.70 pts allowed) | NO Saints (26.29 pts allowed) |
NY Jets (17.88 pts allowed) | NY Giants (26.05 pts allowed) |
CIN Bengals (17.98 pts allowed) | IND Colts (25.88 pts allowed) |
