Chargers RB Ryan Mathews Has Broken Collarbone: Fantasy Implications
San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews has a broken collarbone and is expected to miss four to six weeks. We break down the fantasy implications.

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews has a broken collarbone and will need surgery. Matthews is expected to miss four to six weeks. The injury happened on his only carry of Thursday's preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. The injury timetable means Mathews will miss at least the rest of the preseason.
Analysis: This is the kind of news that fantasy owners dread because the risk in terms of where to draft him or how much to pay in an auction would be easier to calculate if it was certain he would miss regular-season games. The injury doesn't allow you to write Mathews off, but heading into draft day make sure you have a plan for him, even if that means avoiding him altogether. Mathews rushed for more than 1,000 yards last season but also started to lose goal-line carries. Monitor his progress and don't forget about veteran Ronnie Brown, who could get carries if Mathews isn't ready for the season-opener.
