The Jets started their preseason under the spotlight of the most scrutinized QB competition in the league, and neither player did much to hurt or help their case Friday night. Mark Sanchez played the first quarter and went 4-6 with 21 yards. Tim Tebow played the 2nd quarter and part of the third, finishing 4-8 for 27 yards, one interception and 34 rushing yards.

Analysis: Offensive coordinator Tony Sparano ran a very conservative, vanilla offense while Sanchez was in, which led to stalled drives and, frankly, boring football. He opened things up a little more with Tebow, but it was clear that the Jets’ goal tonight was more about staying healthy than wins, losses or fantasy stats. It’s foolhardy to draw any firm conclusions about their performances from this game -- this competition is going to last for some time. Good news for ESPN, bad news for fans of football teams west of the Jersey Turnpike.
