Editors’s Note: A Cowboys source tells Albert Breer of NFL Network that tests show Witten’s spleen is not ruptured and the tight end will not need surgery.
Report: No Surgery Needed for Cowboys TE Jason Witten: Fantasy Implications
Report: Cowboys TE Jason Witten’s spleen injury will not require surgery. We break down the fantasy implications.

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten will reportedly miss the rest of the preseason because of a spleen injury. Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, says Witten's injury resulted in internal bleeding. The report surfaced after Dan Patrick suggested on his radio show that Witten's injury could be serious. Witten took a hard hit from Raiders LB Rolando McClain on Monday night.
Analysis: Witten is a Top 5 fantasy tight end, so losing him for any amount of time in the regular season would hurt the Dallas offense and should concern fantasy owners. Right now it’s not clear if he will miss any regular-season time so owners should monitor this closely. For now, go ahead and draft him as you normally would but be prepared to have a backup for the first week or two of the season.
