Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan has said that the "best players are going to play, and who they are right now, I'm not really sure" in regards to his running back situation. Last night, he also indicated that Tim Hightower might not be ready to play by third preseason game, as thought earlier. Additionally, Roy Helu has missed practice this week with Achilles tendinitis. The only healthy running back with experience right now is second-year pro Evan Royster, who had 21 yards on 7 carries in the first preseason game.

Fantasy Implications: Regardless of who wins the starting job for week one, we know that Shanahan has a reputation for changing his mind a lot in regards to who gets the most reps. All of Hightower, Helu, and Royster had their opportunities last year and it's hard to get a read on any of the preseason statistics because the Redskins offensive line has also been unhealthy. Alfred Morris had 54 yards on 15 carries last week and these injuries could open the door for him also to win some playing time. As of now, none of the Redskins running backs are worth drafting with confidence.
