Ryan Mallett got the start Monday night as the New England Patriots rested their starters against the Philadelphia Eagles. The second-year quarterback played well, going 10-for-20 passing for 105 yards and a touchdown against the Eagles' first-team defense. Mallett was relieved by Brian Hoyer early in the second quarter.
Ryan Mallett Starts, Performs Well Monday Vs. Eagles: Fantasy Implications
Ryan Mallett started Monday night’s preseason game between the Patriots and Eagles, going 10-for-20 passing for 105 yards and a touchdown. We break down the fantasy implications.

Analysis: Hoyer, meanwhile, struggled mightily, going 5-for-17 passing for 55 yards against the Eagles' backups. The fact that Mallett earned the start wasn't necessarily an indication that he has surpassed Hoyer as Tom Brady's primary backup, but he certainly made the stronger case for himself Monday.
He struggled early but made several mature throws as the game continued, including the seven-yard touchdown pass to Alex Silvestro on his last series of the game. If Armageddon hits and Tom Brady is knocked out for the season again, Pats fans should be able to sleep a little better based on Mallett's performance Monday.
