Our Fantasy War Room continued for a fourth straight day. Other than specific questions dealing with choosing between certain players, people really seem to have the most questions on strategy for draft positions, what to do at the very front of the draft, and what to do at the back end. A few also wanted the fantasy teams they’ve already drafted to be graded by the SB Nation moderator.
Fantasy Football War Room Recap: Doug Martin, Suspended Players & More!
Day 4 of the Fantasy Football War Room sponsored by Sprint included plenty of questions about late round sleepers, the fantasy impact of suspended players and a few interesting questions about random leagues.
On this night, there was a decent amount of discussion on the following topics.
1. What are the mid-to-late round or sleeper WR picks that might have some nice upside? This was a recurring topic and names that you won't hear during the first rounds of your draft but who may help your team include: Pierre Garcon, who has developed a nice chemistry with RG3; Danny Amendola who would be a great pick-up, especially in PPR leagues, if he can return to 2010 form; Davone Bess, who is right now the No. 1 receiver on a team that may be behind and have to pass a lot; Titus Young, who continues to develop and enjoy the open space provided to him by having Calvin Johnson on the other side of the field; and Brandon LaFell, the second option for Cam Newton behind Steve Smith in Carolina.
2. What should you do if you are in a league that allows a QB to play a flex position? Should you go QB-QB in the first two rounds? The advice given was to zig when others zag. Yes, you should try to get one of the top three quarterbacks and have an eye towards QB-QB. But if everyone else has that strategy, your best move in the second round is to take the dominant RB/WR that has been thrown in your lap and not worry about that second QB right then.
3. Thoughts on Doug Martin. This guy has been flying up some draft boards because he has all the makings of a three-down back in a run-heavy offense. The hope last year was that LeGarrette Blount would be that player, but it never materialized. Most people think it will for Martin.
4. The choice of Martin is much more clear cut than the running situation in Detroit. It is impossible to tell what is going on with the Lions' RBs. The best advice may be to stay away from Jahvid Best and Kevin Smith for now and only dip your toes in that water if you are in a keeper league or have room at the end of your bench for the talented but in-trouble Mikel Leshoure who could be the clear starter for the second half of the season if the chips fall correctly.
5. Speaking of keeping a guy on your bench, there were a number of questions and answers that referred to Jacquizz Rodgers, backup running back for Atlanta. This has not been a good preseason for Michael Turner and many question whether he may be burning out. If so, the torch could be handed to Rodgers, so he is someone to consider in the late rounds.
6. Finally, there was Kenny Britt. Between the injuries, the arrests, the possible suspension coming up, the inconsistency, and the questions regarding the Titans passing game, this is one player you might want to pass over in your fantasy drafts.
