The Indianapolis Colts traded a second round pick and a conditional pick to the Miami Dolphins for cornerback Vontae Davis on Sunday, owner Jim Irsay tweeted. Davis was drafted No. 25 overall in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Dolphins, and has had an up and down career. While his talent is undeniable, his work ethic has raised red flags. He finished 2011 with four interceptions and has nine in his three-year career. The Colts secondary will welcome the addition of a competent cover-man.

Analysis: Jim Irsay got the fans riled up with tweets about a big trade on the horizon, and apparently, this was that trade. Considering the price, the Colts got some bang for their buck. Davis has tons of ability and could become a shutdown guy for Indy if they keep him motivated. Given the shape that secondary is in, this was a calculated risk the Colts needed to take.
