The Patriots moved Jake Ballad to the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Monday to clear up an extra roster spot. Ballard still has a long road back from ACL reconstruction and microfracture surgery after hurting his knee with the New York Giants in this past year's Super Bowl.
Jake Ballard Has Little Fantasy Football Value On PUP List
New England placed Jake Ballard on the PUP list Monday. We break down the fantasy implications.

Analysis: Picking up Ballard was an unexpected and valuable move by the Patriots this summer, but he likely won't be able to make any kind of impact for New England in 2012. Ballard will not be eligible to play until after Week 6. Even then, though, he isn't expected to play. The Patriots have plenty of options at tight end going into 2012 with Gronk and Aaron Hernandez being the primary targets for Tom Brady. Visanthe Shiancoe and Daniel Fells backup the two stars, but neither will be much of drain on their fantasy value.
