The Carolina Panthers released Olindo Mare on Monday, handing over the kicking duties to Justin Medlock. Medlock has only attempted two field goals during the regular season in his career, but at 28 years old, he will be given the opportunity to start in 2012.
Olindo Mare Release Boosts Fantasy Value For Justin Medlock
Olindo Mare will not kick for the Panthers in 2012, handing the duties over to Justin Medlock. We break down the fantasy implications.

Analysis: Mare blew several crucial kicks last season, including two potential games winners against Minnesota and Atlanta. The 39-year-old played 13 years in the NFL with three different teams dating back to 1997. Medlock certainly isn't proven, so the Panthers may decide to go with another veteran eventually. Billy Cundiff is a name that already popped up after his recent release. Mare tied for seventh in the league in extra points made in 2011, but he ranked towards the bottom in field goals made. Don't expect Medlock to be of much value for your lineup, but at least note he's the starter for now.
