The New England Patriots have released WR Jabar Gaffny in their first round of roster cuts Monday, reports Christopher Price of WEEI. Gaffney was signed to a two-year deal in May after setting career highs in 2011 with 68 catches, 947 yards and 5 TDs. Despite his productive year, he failed to win the No. 3 WR spot in camp before suffering a thigh injury last week.
Jabar Gaffney Released By Patriots, Fantasy Value Dries Up
The Patriots released Jabar Gaffney after he failed to impress in a crowded receiving unit. We break down the fantasy implications.

Analysis: Pretty surprising cut for a guy who was a steady WR3 last season, but it's clear he had no real role in New England, with Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd locked into starting jobs and the tight-end combo of Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez siphoning away even more catch opportunities. There's still time for Gaffney to catch on with another team, but he's not even worth a late-round flier at this point in time.
