Ryan Mathews was cleared by San Diego Chargers team doctors Monday to take part in upper-body exercises on his left side, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Mathews underwent surgery on his right shoulder two weeks ago after breaking his clavicle in the team's preseason opener. The running back maintains that he will be ready for the Chargers' regular season opener on Sept. 10 against the Oakland Raiders.
Ryan Mathews Cleared For Upper-Body Work, Fantasy Status Still Uncertain
Ryan Mathews was cleared by Chargers doctors for upper-body exercises Monday. We break down the fantasy implications.

Analysis: Mathews’ prognosis for a Week 1 return would have him coming back on the front end of the original projection of 4-to-6 weeks. Given the injury, it seems that Mathews is being a tad optimistic. It is still likely that he misses one or two games, if not more. Mathews could/should be an elite fantasy back if he can return fully healthy. How long he stays upright remains to be seen.
