The Cleveland Browns have released QB Seneca Wallace as part of final roster cuts, according to Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland. The move confirms that Colt McCoy will remain as the primary backup to Brandon Weeden, despite months of trade speculation after the Browns traded up to draft Weeden in the first round.

Analysis: Wallace has been floating around for years as a competent backup, but nothing special outside of the occasional gimmick package to utilize his athleticism. He’s also six years older than McCoy and due more than $2 million. At age 32 and with no real chance of being a starter, he’s probably near the end of the line. As for the Browns, keeping McCoy around after very publicly giving up on him as a starter means things could get very awkward if Weeden struggles and fans get impatient.
