Analysis: Who the starters are in the first preseason game is hardly ever an indication of who the starters will be in week one of the regular season, but the 49ers have a serious battle of notable names and this is the first step towards seeing who gets the most playing time. In addition to Crabtree, Ginn, and Moss, the 49ers have added Mario Manningham and A.J. Jenkins to give Alex Smith a number of options this season that he didn't have last year. It would be hard to predict which of the five receivers will end up leading the team in production by the end of the year and it's very likely that none of them top 1,000 yards. It might just end up being better news for Smith.
