Steve Smith picked up right where he left off from the 2011 season, leading the Panthers in receiving in Week 1 against the Buccaneers. Smith finished with seven catches for 106 yards after being targeted 11 times by Cam Newton.
Steve Smith Puts In Huge Fantasy Numbers In Season Opener
Carolina utilized Steve Smith often in the aerial assault against Tampa Bay. We break down the fantasy implications.

Fantasy Impact: If you own Smith this year, you can pretty much stay the course every week barring an unforeseen injury. Smith is clearly the No. 1 target for Newton when he makes his progression in the passing game, and the two should continue to put up strong numbers in their second season together. If fellow wide receiver Brandon LaFell can step up in 2012 and become a solid No. 2 option for Newton, Smith will surely benefit from avoiding constant double teams. This is exactly the kind of start owners wanted to see from the 33-year-old wideout.
