Cam Newton wasn't as explosive he was in his first career start last season, but he did manage to put up solid numbers against the Buccaneers. The second-year quarterback completed 23 of 33 passes for 302 yards and one touchdown, but his two interceptions and three sacks did not help.
Cam Newton Provides Low Key Fantasy Performance
Cam Newton’s Week 1 performance wasn’t a spectacle like last year’s, but he did rack up plenty of yards through the air. We break down the fantasy implications.

Fantasy Impact: The Panthers averaged over 25 points per game in Newton's rookie season, so this wasn't quite the beginning they were expecting in 2012. There was virtually no run game, and Newton only ran the ball five times for a total of four yards. Of course the whispers of a sophomore slump began to swirl around the social media world immediately following the loss. However, it's a bit too early to declare he's fallen off. You should not be reluctant to start Newton every week.
