Fantasy football waiver wire advice: 5 QBs to target in Week 5

Need a replacement for Robert Griffin III this week? We have five quarterbacks that could be available on the waiver wire.

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

The Redskins, Steelers, Buccaneers and Vikings all have a bye this week. That leaves fantasy owners in a lurch if they have Robert Griffin III or Ben Roethlisberger. Fortunately, there are still some decent options available on the waiver wire. Here are five quarterbacks owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues that owners should target as the bye weeks go into full swing.

Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins (owned in 22 percent of leagues)

Tannehill continues to take steps forward in his second season, although he is still struggling with ball security. Tannehill has fumbled the ball five times and lost two in just three games this season. He struggled on Monday Night Football, but he did finish with 48 rushing yards, which helped overcome those fumbles. He remains a solid QB2 filler during the bye weeks.

Terrelle Pryor, Oakland Raiders (owned in 22 percent of leagues)

Pryor will be two weeks removed from a concussion and should have no trouble taking the starting job, since Matt Flynn showed nothing against the Redskins. Pryor missed a potentially juicy matchup against Washington, but he still has some soft defenses on the schedule. The Raiders will be facing the Chargers, Steelers and Eagles over the next four weeks.

Brian Hoyer, Cleveland Browns (owned in 6 percent of leagues)

It looks like Hoyer will be the starter for the rest of the season. In the last two games, he's thrown for 590 yards and five touchdowns while leading the Browns to a surprising two-game winning streak. Cleveland still doesn't have a running game to speak of, so look for Hoyer to continue airing it out. He gets the Bills, Lions and Packers in the next three weeks.

Matt Cassel, Minnesota Vikings (owned in 2 percent of leagues)

Cassel's status depends on whether or not Christian Ponder keeps the starting job, but he looked like an upgrade against the Steelers, keeping the offense moving and getting Greg Jennings more involved. The Vikings have favorable matchups against the Giants and Packers defenses coming up. Keep an eye on their quarterback situation.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tennessee Titans (owned in 2 percent of leagues)

Jake Locker is out indefinitely with a hip injury, so Fitzpatrick gets another shot at starting. His arm strength is a massive downgrade from Locker's and the Titans have tough matchups against the Chiefs, Seahawks and 49ers. He'll be more of a desperation play in two-QB leagues.
