Fantasy football waiver wire advice: Five TEs to target for Week 5

We look at five tight ends on the waiver wire that could help your fantasy team during the bye weeks.

Justin K. Aller

The tight end position is thinner than ever in fantasy, and we’re now entering the bye weeks, where desperate owners turn to the waiver wire hoping to catch lightning in a bottle for a week. We have five tights ends available that could be worth a look during this stretch. These players are owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues and should be available in your league.

Charles Clay, Miami Dolphins (owned in 47 percent of leagues)

Clay has yet to score a receiving touchdown this season (his lone score came on a goal line carry), but he’s still involved in the Dolphins’ passing game, following up a four-catch, 40-yard Week 3 outing by getting 42 yards on six catches in Week 4. Clay is now up to 20 catches and 245 yards on the season. He’s a fine TE2 option going forward.

Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers (owned in 43 percent of leagues)

After a brief tuneup in Week 3, Miller played nearly every snap against the Vikings, getting six catches for 70 yards. He's fully back from knee surgery and should go back to being an essential part of Pittsburgh's offense. The Steelers have a bye in Week 5, but Miller might not be available in most leagues by then. Grab him while you can.

Coby Fleener, Indianapolis Colts (owned in 32 percent of leagues)

Fleener continues to make plays for the Colts, racking up five catches, 77 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's win over the Jaguars. He has a tough matchup with the Seahawks in Week 5, but Seattle's defense struggled to cover tight ends on Sunday, getting gashed by Owen Daniels and Garrett Graham. Fleener has sneaky upside this week.

Kellen Winslow, New York Jets (owned in 9 percent of leagues)

Winslow has been one of the more hot-or-cold tight ends this year. He got 79 yards in the opener and 73 in Week 4, but wasn't targeted once in Week 3. That streakiness combined with Geno Smith's struggles makes it hard to trust him week-to-week, but he's worth a dice roll against the Falcons this week if you're desperate.

Jordan Reed, Washington Redskins (owned in 4 percent of leagues)

Reed missed Week 4 with a quad injury, but he will have the bye week to heal up. Once he does, he should continue challenging Fred Davis for snaps and targets. Davis has been ineffective this year, with just three catches in three games. With Robert Griffin III starting to find his groove, Reed could find himself on the deep-league radar sooner than later.
