Fantasy Football start/sit advice, Week 6 TNF: Matt Forte

Matt Forte logged a season-low in touches versus the Saints in Week 5. Can he bounce back versus a struggling Giants defense on Thursday night? We break down the fantasy implications.

Rob Grabowski-USA TODAY Sports

Matt Forte had his lowest fantasy output of the season last week versus the Saints, totaling 95 yards and no touchdowns. However, if that's rock bottom for Forte, owners will gladly take that.

Win or lose, ahead or behind, Forte's production has been relatively uniform for the Bears thus far. Owners will raise an eyebrow at the 16 touches (12 carries, four catches) in Week 5, but he was targeted six times in the passing game. That's still not quite on par with the workload he commanded out of the season's gate, but his most recent output came under different circumstances. The Bears trailed most of the contest, and Alshon Jeffery could not be stopped. Trailing early, and by a wide margin, is never a good formula for a running back's fantasy success.

Fantasy Spin: Forte is an obvious start this week versus a Giants defense that has been gashed in all phases of the game. They have allowed five rushing touchdowns in as many games, and have allowed 126 rushing yards per game thus far. That ranks them 27th in the NFL, and provides Forte's owners with much reason to expect a bounce back.

Forte remains on pace to catch 86 passes and total over 1,800 yards from scrimmage in 2013, which are the kind of numbers his fantasy owners dreamed of when hearing he would be working under new coach Marc Trestman. Should Forte keep that pace, his final line would be comparable to Charlie Garner, who caught 211 passes while Trestman served as his offensive coordinator with the Oakland Raiders from 2001-03. Forte has a great situation with the Bears, and there's no reason to assume he won't continue his great fantasy season Thursday night versus the Giants.
