Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 7 TNF: Sidney Rice/Golden Tate

The Seahawks’ wide receivers have been underwhelming so far this season. Can they get back on track Thursday night? We break down the fantasy implications.

A year after both averaged more than 40 yards a game, Seattle Seahawks wide receivers Golden Tate and Sidney Rice have both seen their production drop in 2013. Both receivers hope to get back on track Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals.

Last season, Rice had 50 receptions for 748 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 46.8 yards a game, while Tate had 45 receptions for 688, also with seven scores, for 45.9 yards a game. This year, Tate has had similar production, catching 23 balls for 269 yards, an average of 44.8 yards a game. Rice, meanwhile, has fallen to 30.2 yards a game, with only 12 catches in six games for 181 yards. Tate has only scored once this season, on pace for under three over the whole year, while Rice has scored twice.

Fantasy impact: Both receivers have fallen behind Doug Baldwin in production this year. Baldwin was the team's fourth-leading receiver a year ago, with only 366 yards on the whole season, but has already almost reached that number this season, sitting at 344 yards through six games.

Thursday night, the Seahawks travel to Arizona to face a Cardinals defense that allows a lot of passing yards, but also snares a lot of interceptions. Arizona’s eight interceptions on the season is tied for seventh in the league, but the team’s 1,672 receiving yards allowed ranks 24th. With a defense like that, fantasy owners would rather a team facing them have one dominant receiver than two or three middling ones, like Seattle has. Tate and Rice are both low-end starting options Thursday night — WR3 or flex. Anyone who can get away with benching them might want to go that route.
