Fantasy football projections, Week 7: Patriots vs. Jets featuring Tom Brady, Julian Edelman and Geno Smith

The Week 7 matchup between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets features an upstart team against a perennial contender. We've got all the fantasy projections for you courtesy of numberFire.

After having his touchdown streak snapped by the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5, quarterback Tom Brady showed why he is one of the best football players who ever lived against the previously undefeated New Orleans Saints in Week 6. Although Brady's fantasy numbers won't jump off the page at his fantasy owners, he managed to put together a last-second drive and find receiver Kenbrell Thompkins in the end zone with just five seconds left in the game, giving the Patriots a 30-27 victory. The more exciting part about Brady leading his team is that he might have tight end Rob Gronkowski in the lineup against the Jets. Gronkowski has been cleared by doctors and is now more likely than ever to play.

Gronkowski's presence against the Jets would almost certainly give running back Stevan Ridley a fighting chance to perform well against a tough Jets run defense. Ridley found the end zone twice against the Saints last week and rushed for a season-high 96 yards. Sunday's game may also be the last big one for receiver Julian Edelman, who caught a career-high 13 passes against the Jets back in Week 2. Edelman's only saving grace in terms of fantasy value is the fact that Danny Amendola has been hurt most of the season.

After looking like a budding young superstar against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5, quarterback Geno Smith looked overmatched in Week 6 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Smith only managed to complete 19 passes for 201 yards in the game while also throwing a pair of interceptions and failing to find the end zone. His 5.9 yards per attempt in the contest represented the lowest average of his young career.

Smith will have to be able to connect with his receivers against the Patriots to give his team a chance to win in Week 7. With Santonio Holmes (hamstring) not expected to play, Smith will have to rely on Stephen Hill and tight end Jeff Cumberland to produce. Though the two combined for only seven catches and 105 yards against the Steelers, they were the only two pass catchers in the Jets' offense who caught passes longer than 13 yards in the game.
