Robert Griffin III explodes for fantasy owners with season-high in rushing yards

The Redskins got a vintage performance from Robert Griffin III, who continues to return to form after a strong showing versus the Bears. We break down the fantasy implications.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III continued to progress from offseason knee surgery with a big game versus the Bears on Sunday.

Griffin completed 18-of-29 passes for 298 yards and two touchdowns and an interception in the team's 45-41 victory over the Bears. Griffin found Jordan Reed on a corner-fade route for his first touchdown of the day, and later connected with Aldrick Robinson for a 45-yard completion in the end zone after Bears cornerback Charles Tillman misplayed what could have easily resulted in an interception.

But more telling of Griffin’s recovery is that he often called his own number and carried the football on read-option plays. Griffin finished the afternoon with a season-high of 84 rushing yards on 11 carries and looked spry in the process.

Fantasy Spin: Griffin kept his fantasy owners afloat in the beginning of the season with a heavy volume of passes as the team succumbed to early, insurmountable deficits. Now, as the Redskins offense makes strides to return to its 2012 form, Griffin is getting it done on the ground as well as through the air in contests that are more closely contested.

Griffin turned in a 20-plus point performance that his owners will gladly take after such a rough start to the season, and there's likely to be more of that with his upcoming schedule. Next week, he is likely to be amid another shootout when the Redskins travel to Denver to take on another high-flying offense in the Broncos, and win or lose, Griffin's more than capable of turning that into a big day for his fantasy owners.
