Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 9: Mike Wallace on Thursday Night Football

The Dolphins’ free-agent acquisition has had an up-and-down season. He may have an “up” outing against the Bengals on Thursday night. We break down the fantasy implications.

Stew Milne-USA TODAY Sports

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace has been a boom-or-bust wide receiver so far this year, with more "bust" than "boom" games. He sits at 398 receiving yards on the season, with two of his seven games above 100 yards, but four with 41 or fewer yards. On Thursday night, he hopes to get back on the "boom" path in his team's home game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Wallace has one touchdown on the season, coming in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts, when he caught nine passes for 115 yards, which was easily his best outing of the season. His other big game came in the team's Week 5 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, when Wallace caught seven balls for 105 yards. He has been held to three or fewer receptions in four of his other five games.

Fantasy impact: Wallace has been somewhat disappointing for a team that signed him in the offseason with designs on him being a difference-maker at wide receiver. In fantasy, he was drafted as a WR2 in most leagues, but has been more of a flex option so far.

The Dolphins' No. 3 wide receiver, Brandon Gibson, suffered a season-ending knee injury last Sunday. Gibson was averaging seven targets a game before going out, and those targets will have to go somewhere. Against a Bengals defense that is better against the run than the pass, Miami and quarterback Ryan Tannehill are probably going to have to look to the air for production Thursday night. Wallace is a good start for Thursday night, with this game looking like it could be another "boom" on the scoreboard for him.
