Chargers vs. Raiders: Week 5 fantasy football projections for Philip Rivers, Terrelle Pryor, Ryan Matthews

The San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders will face off on Sunday. There should be plenty of options for fantasy football in the game.

Jeff Gross

The San Diego Chargers will take on the Oakland Raiders in an AFC West rivalry matchup on Sunday. San Diego is 2-2, and coming off a solid win over the Dallas Cowboys in their last game. They'd be 3-1 if not for a late comeback by the Tennessee Titans in Week 3. Oakland is 1-3, with their lone win coming against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars.

Both teams possess decent fantasy options, though one more than the other. With some help from numberFire, we’ll break down some projections. We’ll start with the Chargers below:

Chargers

Philip Rivers has been solid this season. He's actually been better than solid, and is on his way to one of his best season's yet. That's a stark contrast to last season, which was a down year for him. He's thrown for 11 touchdowns against two interceptions and numberFire projects he'll put up over 17 points on Sunday, so he's a must-start.

Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot behind him. Running back Ryan Mathews has been decent this year, but he's projected to earn just over nine points for fantasy owners this week. Nobody quite knows how the receiver situation will end up looking either, so Eddie Royal might be the only smart bet there.

Raiders

Kicker Sebastian Janikowski is projected to score more fantasy points than any Oakland receiver. That should say a lot about Terrelle Pryor and how he throws the ball. He could end up putting up some solid rushing gains though, so he's projected to put up over 16 points.

Running back Darren McFadden will miss the game with injury, so Rashad Jennings will take his place. Jennings performed very well in relief of McFadden the last time out, however, with over 100 all-purpose yards. He doesn't have numberFIre's full confidence, but he is projected to earn over eight fantasy points.
