The 49ers quarterback didn’t need to do much to preserve a win against the Texans in Week 5. We break down the fantasy implications.

The 49ers defense intercepted Texans quarterback Matt Schaub for a touchdown early in the game and they were able to run the ball for two scores, as well. All of that production meant that Kaepernick could afford to call a conservative game and run the clock for most of the second half.
Though the 49ers got off to a rocky start in the first three weeks of the season, it looks like their defense has turned it on. Nobody can deny that Kaepernick has had his struggles in his first full season as an NFL starter as teams are no longer fooled by the threat of a read-option strategy.
Fantasy impact: Overall, the way the game played out simply didn’t lend itself well to a top-notch fantasy performance from Kaepernick. There was simply no need for it.
Going into Week 6, Kaepernick will face an Arizona Cardinals defense that is considered very good. Fantasy owners may be in line for another subpar stat line from Kaepernick and should consider possibilities friendlier matchup elsewhere.
