Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill had a poor fantasy day Thursday, buoyed only by a one-yard touchdown on his lone rush of the day, as the Dolphins beat the Cincinnati Bengals 22-20 in overtime. Tannehill threw the ball barely half as many times as his counterpart, Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton.
Ryan Tannehill doomed by time-of-possession, keeping fantasy numbers low
The Dolphins quarterback did notch a rushing touchdown, but his team didn’t have the ball long enough for him to tally big passing numbers. We break down the fantasy implications.

Tannehill simply didn’t have the ball as often as Dalton. The Dolphins scored a touchdown on an interception return and the Bengals had several time-sucking drives, so Cincinnati had the ball for 40 minutes of the game while Miami only had it for 28. As a result, Tannehill threw the ball only 28 times. While he completed more than 70 percent of his attempts, that only totaled 208 yards, keeping his overall numbers in check.
Fantasy impact: There’s not much takeaway from this game in regards to Tannehill. It was mostly flukes that kept his passing attempts low, and the fact that he averaged 7.4 yards per pass attempt show that he wasn’t throwing it badly overall.
Fantasy owners scared of bad news in this game should notice that the Dolphins have been running the ball far more often in recent weeks. That, more than Tannehill’s low total of passing yards, might hurt his value going forward.
