Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 10: Chris Givens/Austin Pettis

The Rams receivers have had trouble being productive this season. Can they break through against the Colts? We break down the fantasy implications.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

If you were to combine the seasons of St. Louis Rams wide receivers Austin Pettis and Chris Givens, it would be a perfectly decent fantasy season of 706 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Christin Givtis, however, doesn't exist, and the two receivers individually have struggled to get much going (and the less said about Tavon Austin, the better). Sunday, the Rams and their receivers look to break through against the Indianapolis Colts.

Pettis has been the touchdown-scorer of the two, with four scores, but he is averaging only 33 receiving yards over the team’s nine games, for 297 total. Givens has more yardage — 409 through the nine games, and the lone 100-yard game in the team’s Week 2 performance — but he hasn’t yet found the end zone this season.

Fantasy impact: In two games since starter Sam Bradford was lost to injury, new starter Kellen Clemens has seemed to have more of a rapport with Givens than Pettis, as Givens has 114 yards over the two games compared to only 46 for Pettis.

Their opponent Sunday, the Colts, is eighth worst in the NFL in terms of fantasy points allowed to opposing wide receivers. Also, as was on display last Sunday night against Andre Johnson and the Houston Texans, the Colts are particularly susceptible to the deep pass, which is more Givens territory than Pettis, whose yards-per-reception average is barely two-thirds that of his teammate.

Neither wide receiver is a comfortable start in Week 10, but fantasy owners who are forced to use one would be better served using Givens than Pettis.
