Arizona Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall is active Sunday, two weeks after he missed a game with a toe injury. He is expected to be the backup to rookie Andre Ellington as the Cardinals host the Houston Texans.
Rashard Mendenhall active Sunday; fantasy owners shouldn’t bother
The Cardinals running back is active after missing a week ago, but he might have lost his touches to a rookie. We break down the fantasy implications.

Mendenhall has 281 yards and three touchdowns on 92 carries this season, adding 66 receiving yards on 10 catches. With Mendenhall out in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons, Ellington was a huge performer with 154 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.
Fantasy impact: Mendenhall was in danger of losing his starting job even before his injury -- after the toe issues and Ellington’s huge game, why anyone would have Mendenhall in their lineup is completely baffling.
The team has said it doesn’t want Ellington to carry a full load, so if it’s a completely desperate situation, sure, maybe Mendenhall gets a few carries. But he only has 3.1 yards per carry this season, there are other mouths to feed in Arizona, and Ellington will dominate the running game. Just ignore Mendenhall.
