Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton had a disappointing day against the San Francisco 49ers, at least from a statistical standpoint. He did lead Carolina to a 10-9 win, though that was more on the back of a strong defense that held Colin Kaepernick to under 100 yards passing.
Cam Newton has poor fantasy outing in win over 49ers
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton had a poor day against the San Francisco 49ers, despite his team winning. We break down the fantasy implications.

Newton finished the game having completed 16 of 32 pass attempts for 169 yard and no touchdowns, with one interception. He did manage to add seven carries for 17 yards, for whatever that's worth. The lone offensive touchdown came from DeAngelo Williams, who carried the ball eight times for 46 yards.
Newton wasn’t expected to have a huge game against the strong San Francisco defense, but given that he is a dual-threat quarterback, a little more is always expected of him from a fantasy standpoint. He was largely ineffective in that vein on Sunday.
Fantasy Impact: If you have Newton, smart money is that you are in a position where you need to start him every week regardless. Still, this wasn't a desirable matchup, so his struggles were not surprising. Newton could have a better game against the New England Patriots next week, but matchups against the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers the following weeks are much more intriguing.
