The Week 11 matchup between the San Diego Chargers and the Miami Dolphins features one of the hottest waiver pickups of the week with some major upside. We've got all the fantasy projections for you courtesy of numberFire.
San Diego Chargers
As is usually the story for the Chargers, they will only go as far as quarterback Philip Rivers can take them. His inconsistent play might explain why the team has been mediocre for the last several years. One would think that trying to compete against the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning would bring out the best in Rivers, but the veteran gunslinger only threw for 218 yards and one touchdown in a game the Broncos won 28-20.
One positive for the Chargers from last week is that running back Ryan Mathews averaged a healthy 4.2 yards per carry and managed to score a touchdown. The one negative is that he did it against a Broncos defense that doesn't mind giving up points to the run. Both Rivers and Matthews will need to be on top of their game if they are to walk away from Miami with a win on Sunday.
Miami Dolphins
It appears all hope is lost for the Miami Dolphins on the field considering they lost to the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. The good news is the team still found something that matters from a fantasy perspective, a game-breaking wide receiver. Maybe one game isn't enough to discover a star, but Rishard Matthews is one of the hottest pickups on the waiver wire this week. He caught 11 passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns against the Bucs.
There's no doubt that with Brandon Gibson out for the season and nobody else really stepping up as a number one guy, quarterback Ryan Tannehill will look to Matthews often in Week 11. Tannehill himself actually had a solid game last week. At one point in the contest, he completed 12 straight passes. The Chargers don't really have a Darrelle Revis-like shutdown cornerback for the most part, so it'll be interesting to see if Tannehill can build a solid effort against the Chargers.
