The Week 12 matchup between the Chicago Bears and the St. Louis Rams could see a fair bit of production from running backs. We've got all the fantasy projections for you courtesy of numberFire.
Chicago Bears
When quarterback Jay Cutler (groin, ankle) went down in Week 7, backup Josh McCown impressed the coaching staff. Cutler came back in Week 10, and again injured himself. He missed last week's game against the Baltimore Ravens, and McCown promptly led the team to the victory. Now, there is talk from some in the media that Cutler isn't necessarily guaranteed to get the starting job back. He is walking around without a boot on his injured ankle now, but McCown will most likely start this Sunday. The Rams defense is good at keeping quarterbacks in check in terms of fantasy points, so McCown will look to Matt Forte in the running game.
Forte rushed for his seventh touchdown of the season last week, and he’s a major threat in point per reception leagues. His Week 11 averages of 8.4 yards per catch and 4.6 yards per carry offer proof of that. As good as the Rams defense is against quarterbacks and the passing game, it is not nearly as good against the running game. That means Forte could be in for a big day for his fantasy owners.
St. Louis Rams
The Rams' quarterbacking situation is kind of like that of the Bears. Kellen Clemens is looking solid enough to give his team an opportunity to win, even though Sam Bradford is clearly the team's number one guy when healthy. Clemens needed to complete just nine passes to go for 247 yards in Week 10 against the Indianapolis Colts. Wide receiver Tavon Austin was a huge part of that, as Austin had three touchdowns in the game and displayed all the speed and ability that caused him to be drafted so high by the team. It'll be interesting to see if the two can hook up again this week.
If Clemens and Austin can connect, running back Zac Stacy might be able to help them seal a victory over the Bears. Stacy is averaging over 25 touches per game the last five games, and he's rushed for three touchdowns and caught another one over that stretch. There's no doubt he's pleasantly surprised the Rams coaching staff, who could hardly get anything going in the first six weeks of the season on the ground. Whether Stacy gets a touchdown in the game or not, he is a good bet to go over 100 total yards against a Bears defense that isn't nearly as good as it was last year.
