Fantasy football start/sit advice Week 9: Saints vs. Jets

The Saints are a little banged up heading to New Jersey while the Jets continue their roller coaster ride. We look at which player might be worth a start in fantasy football.

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sport

The New Orleans Saints take their high-powered offense to Met Life Stadium in Week 9 to take on the New York Jets. They're scored 26 points in every week since Week 2 and they have one of the most consistent offenses in the NFL. Meanwhile, New York has been alternating wins and losses all year.

Saints

Start: Drew Brees, Darren Sproles, Marques Colston (questionable), Jimmy Graham

Three of these four are obvious must-start guys, but Colston is a bit of a risk. The Saints are taking it easy on him and he’ll be a game-time decision. He’s been cold, with only six catches in his last three games, so he is a very low-end WR2 at best.

Deep starts: Pierre Thomas, Lance Moore

The Jets have a great defense and they figure to keep the Saints down, especially in the running game. Lance Moore could get some snaps in the slot should Colston have to sit.

Sit: Mark Ingram

He’s pretty much a lost cause as the third-string back. Ingram certainly has the bust label on him.

Jets

Start: None

Yeah, the Jets aren't exactly a powerhouse on offense. Even though New Orleans isn't too strong on defense, the New York is just too inconsistent. Geno Smith has been able to turn in some good games and, if the season so far is any indication, he might manage to produce. He's been good on the odd weeks and bad on the evens. Still, there's no way he's worth starting.

Deep starts: Chris Ivory, David Nelson, Jeremy Kerley

If you're desperate with some guys on a bye, these three fine fellows have some opportunities. Ivory may get a chance to burn his his old team. He was terrible in Week 8 with only 1.8 yards-per-carry against the Bengals. David Nelson has been picking it up and saw 12 targets, so he's a decent guy to use for owners in very deep leagues

Sit: Geno Smith, Bilal Powell

There’s simply just too much risk here. Powell’s snaps are going down and he’s not getting many looks in the passing game either. As for Smith, starting him is like dancing with the devil.
